In 1999 the Rand Water Mnweni Trust was launched and was the result of a joint effort between Rand Water, the Wildlife and Environment society of South Africa (WESSA),

Bergwatch and the communities of amaNgwane in the Upper Mnweni Valley of the Drakensberg. The Trust was established with an initial capital investment of R2 million from Rand Water.

An objective of the trust remains the creation of sustainable community based eco-tourism ventures.

The Tourism centre was established for this purpose and it allows both day and overnight visitors to this once remote area. The centre provides accommodation, a range of activities as well as a glimpse into local culture.

While you are here, visit Lesotho and Tugela Falls (the highest waterfall in Africa), rock climb, horse ride, mountain bike, fly-fish.

Prices are ridiculously cheap and service is excellent. Use the lodge as a base for two or three FULL days. Each day you can experience a new highlight without wasting time on unnecessary travelling.

Cosy individually decorated bedrooms are all north-facing. Bedrooms have private entrances, satellite television, heater and tea tray and open into a lovely garden with views of the mountains.
