The setting of the reserve is very scenic with a backdrop of the Lebombo mountains and fishing for tiger fish on the dam is very popular. There are currently no permanent facilities.
The Jozini dam was constructed to aid the irrigation of the tropical fruits grown in the area. The dam wall is 89m high and 500m long.
More than 200 species of birds have been recorded here. The Pongola ('trough') river is the major river of the region and supports a large population of crocodiles and hippos.
There are four camps - Sondaba, Mvubu, Inyati and Mhlozi, each with their own character.
